How to Backup and Restore the translation data of my store? •

If a language is removed from your store, Shopify will delete the translation data for that language. Similarly, if your default language is changed, all translation data associated with that language will be lost.

Previously, reversing these actions allowed you to recover the translation data with a simple store scan. However, due to a recent change on Shopify’s end, this method no longer works, and the data is permanently lost.

Backup Feature:

To resolve this issue, we've implemented a backup feature in our Translate My Store & Currency app. Even if your translation data is deleted from Shopify, you can easily restore it using the backups stored within our app.

How to Use the Backup Feature:

  1. Open the Translate & Currency App. Navigate to the Translation page of the app. On that page, select Backup & Restore from the left side in-app menu.

  1. Turn on the "Auto Backup" feature so our app can automatically back up translations periodically.

  1. If you want to back up your translations immediately, click the "Backup Now" button.

  1. At the bottom of the page, you can find all your backup tasks.

Note: Only languages with the "Advanced" translation type will be backed up.

Restoring Your Translations

To restore all translations, simply click the "Restore" button to restore the translation data to the backup version. This option is available on the Backup and Restore section of the Translations page.

Example of How it works:

In the case where all translations for the German language were lost, after the restore task, the German language translations were successfully recovered.

After the restore task, we can see that our German language has recovered the backup translation.
