Why isn't the product search function returning the expected results on translated websites?

When a product doesn't appear in the search function of your theme in a translated version of your store, even though it's visible in the default language, it's often due to a missing translation for the product.

Example:

A search for "Purple Shirt" in the default language returned the expected product.

However, searching for "Lila Hemd" (the German translation of "Purple Shirt") in the German version of the store did not yield any results even though this product exists.


Solution:

The solution to this issue is to translate the product title into German using AI or manual translation. For this example, we will be using the manual translation.

  1. Go to the "Manual Translation" page in the sidebar
  2. Click on "Find by keywords search"
  3. Select a Target language
  4. Select "All" for the translation status
  5. Input the default product title from the default language
  6. Click "Find text to translate"


  1. Locate the product title in the search results. Enter the German translation in the right-hand box and then click "Save"


After completing these steps, searching for "Lila Hemd" on the website should now successfully display the product results.
